I wanted to let you know what a fabulous time I had on the Motogiro last week. It really is a remarkable event and I think you and everyone else involved in running it really excelled at making it very special. The route was stunning, with amazing and challenging roads through wonderful landscapes. The weather only added to the challenge and rewarded those who tackled the route bravely! Particular highlights were the roads through the mountains, the hospitality of the towns and villages, the cameraderie of fellow competitors and of course the Carabinieri escorts… It was eye-opening to travel through the earthquake zone and see the devastation and the rebuilding.

I am extraordinarily grateful that the team of three talented mechanics managed to repair my little Mondial late at night in Roccarasso, after the breakdown on Campo Imperatore – it was a real emotional high when we fired up the bike at 0130 in the morning after several hours work and worry. I wish I could have thanked them more, but hopefully they know how grateful I was. Please remind them! I know all my friends loved the event too and we would love to return at some point; it’s just a question of finding enough spare time…

Many thanks to all the people involved in running the event – you have a hugely committed group of staff who go out of their way to make the Motogiro what it is.

As far as future routes go, my thought is that a route like this year was excellent, with minimum time on large busy roads and maximum time on twisty rural roads in the mountains. If I compare to when I did it in 2014, then the first day then had a lot of busy, straight roads – not so good compared to this year. Wherever you run it, the history makes us feel special and I would love to join you again some time, work and finances allowing!

Volevo farvi sapere che settimana fantastica ho trascorso al Motogiro. È davvero un evento straordinario e penso che tu e tutti gli altri coinvolti nella realizzazione siate davvero eccezionali nel renderlo così speciale. Il percorso è stato sorprendente, con strade incredibili e impegnative attraverso paesaggi meravigliosi. Il tempo ha solo contribuito alla sfida e ha premiato chi ha affrontato la via coraggiosamente! Le strade attraverso le montagne erano molto suggestive, l’ospitalità delle città e dei villaggi, l’amicizia degli altri concorrenti e, naturalmente, gli accompagnatori dei Carabinieri …inoltre, ha fatto molto riflettere anche attraversare la zona del terremoto e vedere la devastazione e la ricostruzione.

Sono straordinariamente grato che la squadra di tre talentuosi meccanici sia riuscita a riparare la mia piccola Mondial a tarda notte a Roccarasso, dopo il crollo di Campo Imperatore. E’ stata una vera e propria gioia quando abbiamo acceso la moto alle 01:30 del mattino dopo diverse ore lavoro e preoccupazione. Vorrei poterli ringraziare di più, ma spero che sappiano quanto fossi grato. Per favore, ringraziateli ancora e ricordategli che gli sono veramente grato! So che anche tutti i miei amici hanno amato l’evento e ci piacerebbe tornare; è solo una questione di trovare del tempo libero …

Grazie mille a tutte le persone coinvolte nella conduzione dell’evento – avete un gruppo di persone estremamente impegnato che fa di tutto per rendere il Motogiro ciò che è.

Per quanto riguarda le rotte future, il mio pensiero è che un percorso come quest’anno è eccellente, con un tempo minimo su grandi strade trafficate e il tempo massimo sulle tortuose strade rurali in montagna. Se paragonato a quando l’ho fatto nel 2014, il primo giorno ho avuto molte strade diritte e trafficate, non sono state così belle come quelle di quest’anno.
